Preserving Order

Spring 2020

This short studio explored radical methods of historic preservation in the context of an existing Albert Kahn powerhouse building in Plymouth, Michigan. This project proposes a method of preservation that focuses on the invisible fundamentals of a building -- order. The proposal aims to preserve the order of the envelope through an intervention of suspended walkways that act as an armature for understanding the fundamental and relentless order of apertures. In this way, the reading of the walkways indicate the powerhouse even if it is altered or demolished in the future.
